Course Overview:

The Qualsafe Level 4 Out-of-Hospital Adult Immediate Life Support course is designed to help learners broaden their knowledge of dealing with deteriorating adult patients, resuscitation attempts, and related events. Learners will focus on developing their skills in patient assessments, devising a working diagnosis, recognising deterioration and managing symptoms, along with resuscitating patients in medical or cardiac arrests in the out-of-hospital and prehospital environment.

Created in line with recommendations from leading bodies, including the Resuscitation Council UK and the Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee (JRCALC), this course is suited to those who are responsible for providing out-of-hospital emergency care to adult patients, such as:

  • Ambulance care support workers
  • Associate practitioners who respond to out-of-hospital emergencies

Entry Requirements:

To register for this course, learners must be:

  • Over the age of 18
  • Trained at or above level E on the PHEM framework
  • Certified in Level 4 Certificate in First Response Emergency Care (RQF) or higher qualification or medical grade (i.e. registered nurse)

  • Safely using and maintaining patient monitoring and life support equipment
  • Assessing and devising a working diagnosis to determine the severity of a patient's condition
  • Dealing with a pregnant patient
  • Performing a dynamic scene risk assessment
  • Assessing, managing and maintaining a patient's airway and monitoring patency
  • Using airway adjuncts, face masks and supraglottic airways
  • Implementing methods and procedures to assess and manage incidents
  • Administering treatment to a choking patient
  • Recognising and dealing with signs of cardiac arrest
  • Carrying out immediate life support
  • Performing a patient handover
